A fricative consonant is a type of consonant sound that is produced by forcing air through a narrow opening between two articulators in the mouth, causing friction or turbulence. This results in a hissing or buzzing sound. Examples of fricative consonants include /f/, /v/, /s/, /z/, /ʃ/ (sh), /ʒ/ (zh), /h/. Fricative consonants can be produced using [[unvoiced phonation]] (/f/, /s/, /ʃ/) or [[voiced phonation]]. (/v/, /z/, /ʒ/).
